No, you do not. Our team is happy to visit with you regardless of the stage in the process you are in. We enjoy being your guide through the process and can share with you the best practices and mistakes to avoid. We are also happy to help you fine-tune your budget so you have confidence in starting the process.
Do you only build on lots that the customer owns?
Yes, we exclusively build custom homes on lots that the customer owns. This allows our customers to have complete control over the location and design of their new home.
Am I able to customize my home with Royal Texan Homes?
Absolutely! The first step is selecting the plan that meets your family’s needs. Then you can further customize that plan with any of the available pre-designed options like adding a 3rd car garage or extending the primary suite to create a relaxing space. Next, you will work with the design team to select a style and elevation for the exterior of our home. Finally, you will go into our own onsite design studio to make all the design selections for your new home. You will select the exterior materials and colors, you will also select your flooring, counters, cabinets, and hardware. When you are done you will have a one-of-a-kind home that will be personalized to your unique needs and tastes!
Do you help customers find a lot to build on?
No, we do not offer lot-finding services. However, if you have a lot that you would like to build on in one of our focused communities, we will be happy to visit the lot with you to give our input on the land and how it might impact the home you want to build.
What is the process for designing a custom home?
Our process starts with a consultation where we discuss the customer’s needs, budget, and design preferences. From there, we work with the customer to create a custom home design that meets their specific requirements.
What is “Build on your lot” construction?
Build-on-your-lot construction requires you to own a piece of land that is suitable for new home construction. Then you select a plan from our list of available plans or you work with our team to create a new plan that meets your specific requirements. Then we build your new home on your property!
What is the timeline for building a custom home?
The timeline for building a custom home can vary depending on the size and complexity of the project. Generally, it takes between 9-10 months to complete a custom home.
What is the cost of building a custom home?
The cost of building a custom home depends on several factors, including the size, design, and materials used. We work with our customers to create a custom home that meets their budget and preferences.
Do you offer financing options?
We do not offer financing options directly. However, we can offer recommendations for lenders who specialize in construction loans and that our clients have had a consistently positive experience working with.
Can I make changes to the design during the construction process?
We understand that customers may want to make changes during the construction process. We work with our customers to accommodate changes to the design when possible.
What type of warranty do you offer?
We offer a comprehensive 3rd party warranty on all of our custom homes. Our warranty covers structural defects, as well as defects in materials and workmanship. For more information on our best-in-class warranty, please reach out to a new home sales consultant.
Can you provide references or examples of your work?
Yes, we can provide references and examples of our previous work. We are proud of the homes we have built and are happy to share them with potential customers. Do I need to have a specific type of lot to build on?
No, we can work with a variety of lot types and terrain features. We will assess the site and design a home that works with the lot’s unique features.
Do I need to have an architect already?
No, we are one of the few builders that has an in-house professional architectural team on staff ready to modify or design your new custom home.
Do you handle obtaining the necessary permits and approvals?
Yes, we handle all the necessary permits and approvals required to build your home as a value-added service for our clients. We have experience working with local building departments and can ensure that everything is in compliance with local regulations.
Can I visit the construction site during the build process?
Yes, we encourage our clients to visit the construction site during the build process. This allows you to see the progress of your home and ask any questions you may have. We also will give you access to an online portal where you will be able to follow the build process, communicate with the building team, and see regular images taken on the job site by our builders and contractors.
Can I bring my own contractors or suppliers?
We prefer to work with our own team of contractors and suppliers, as this helps us ensure quality and consistency throughout the build process.
Can you build a green or sustainable home?
Yes, we have experience building green and sustainable homes. We can work with you to incorporate eco-friendly features and materials into your home design.

What expenses can be included in my mortgage?
Virtually all expenses need to make your home livable can be financed. For instance, the land, the land development, the structure, and selections, as well as septic systems and driveway can be included in your mortgage. Talk to one of our new home sales consultants to discuss your project and to be connected with a few of our approved lenders to review your specific project.
Can you help me with the interior design of my home?
Yes, we have our own design studio staffed with our team of professional designers who will guide you through the design process and help you make your selections. We can help you select materials, colors, and finishes that match your design preferences.

Many clients will include the construction of their outdoor spaces in the initial home-building process. There are many advantages from a time and cost perspective with this approach. We can design outdoor patios, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and more. We can help you create an outdoor living space that complements your new home.
Can I bring my own materials to use in the construction process?
We prefer to use our own materials to ensure quality and consistency throughout the build process. However, we can discuss procuring specific materials for your project on a case-by-case basis.

We have an online system in place for handling change orders during the construction process. We will provide you with a written change order request and will only proceed once we receive your approval.

We do not offer a warranty on appliances and fixtures, as these are typically covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

Having your own plans is not required to work with Royal Texan. We have a number of custom home plans that can be built as is, or customized to meet your specific needs. And, because we are a custom home builder with our own internal architectural design team, we can modify or personalize any plan as a value-added benefit to work with our team.
Will you provide a written estimate for my custom home project?
One of the advantages of working with Royal Texan Homes and building one of our custom home plans is we can price them for you in real-time. Each plan has a number of pre-priced options available enabling our consultants to give you firm pricing in your first meeting.
How much of a deposit is required when I sign a contract to build a Royal Texan Home?
Royal Texan Homes require a simple deposit of $5,000 to begin the customization of any of our available plans. This deposit is credited towards the final cost of your custom home project.
Can I use the equity I have in my land towards my mortgage down payment?
Yes, you can. Some of our clients have enough equity in their land that they don’t have to bring a down payment at all!
